Ultra Clean Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UCTT) has announced that they have acquired a privately held company, Prototype Asia LLC, which they will integrate into their plans to open up a 3D printing service and launch their Additive Manufacturing Center in Singapore. UCT is a leader when it comes to supplying manufacturing systems and subsystems to a variety of areas including the semiconductor, medical, research, and energy industries. This acquisition and subsequent business plan will complement their already robust manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.
“While this [move] will have limited impact on our 2015 financial results, it is highly complementary to our existing offering and combining it with our existing contract manufacturing services will enable UCT’s customers to benefit from the latest state of the art technologies while allowing UCT to expand its market reach,” explained Clarence Granger, Chairman and CEO of UCT.
By expanding the company’s scope and offering a wider range of manufacturing capabilities, UCT should be able to provide a more comprehensive solution to businesses within the areas of aerospace, medical equipment, machinery, computers, electronics, and semiconductors. The new 3D Printing Center will house numerous different types of 3D printers including those utilizing technologies such as fused deposition modeling, selective laser sintering, stereolithography, direct metal laser sintering, wax jetting, and more.
By offering manufacturing services which will enable weight reduction, customization, and the fabrication of new efficient designs, within time frames which were unheard of only a few years ago, UCT should be able to cater to a larger number of clients, both in Asia and worldwide.
“We are excited to base our new 3D Printing service in Singapore where we benefit from a stable business environment, a rich pool of talent and the government’s enthusiastic support of advanced manufacturing technologies. We will start providing our services during Q1 2015,”said Lavi Lev, SVP UCT Asia.
The company expects the new center to open sometime in the first quarter of 2015, providing a wider range of options to their clients, and gradually expanding their market reach. According to UCT this will be the largest 3D printing facility in all of Southeast Asia.
